RAJASTHAN : What to
pack in as much of Rajasthan into
a week? Here is a complete reckoner
on doing it the classic way.
Day 1:
Fly to Udaipur from Delhi/ Mumbai.
Half day sightseeing plus boat excursion
on lake Pichola.
Day 2: Leave for
Mount Abu. Post-lunch. visit Dilwara
Jain temples. Nakki Lake and Sunset
Point.
Day 3: Drive to Jodhpur,
visiting the Ranakpur temples an route.
Day 4: Spend morning
at fort at Jodhpur. After lunch, drive
to Jaisalmer.

5: Morning tour of Jaisalmer
fort and havelis. After lunch, leave
for Khimsar
Day 6: Early morning
visit to village, then leave for
Mandawa. Afternoon, sightseeing
in Mandawa.
Day 7: Drive to
Jaipur. Afternoon, a tour of the
City Palace, and other attractions.
Day 8: Sighseeing
at Amber Fort, and then continue
by raod to Delhi.

EXOTIC
RAJPUTANA : A comprehensive
journey through some of Rajasthan's
most popular attractionsm undertaken
at leisure.
Day 1:
Begin journey at Delhi, driving to
Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal. See
Silandra, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and
itmaduddaulah.
Day 2: Relaxed morning,
or visit Taj Mahal again. After lunch,
leave for Bharatpur, visiting the
abandoned Mughal city of Fatehpur
Sikri en route. Your Rajasthan experience
begins at Bharatpur.
Day 3: Early morning,
Visit the bird sanctuary. After breakfast,
leave for Jaipur. Afternoon free in
Jaipur.
Day 4: Full day sightseeing
of City Palace, Amber Fort, and other
attractions.
Day 5: Drive to Nawalgarh,
via Samode Spend the rest of the day
sightseeing in Nawalgarh and other
painted towns of Shekhawati.
Day 6: Drive to Khimsar,
a village with a feudal home as your
abode for the night.
Day 7: Leave for
Jaisalmer, visiting Osian en route.
Day 8: Walk around
Jaisalmer fort, discover its amazing
havelis, visit the Jain temples. A
visit to Sunset Point at dusk is recommended.
Day 9: Leave for
Jodhpur. Afternoon free to relax.
Day 10: Full day's
sightseeing at Mehrangarh fort, Jaswant
Thanda, Mandore and the bazar of the
old city.
Day 11: Drive to
Kumbhalgarh, visiting the temples
at Ranakpur en route.
Day 12: morning to
be spent at Kumbhalgarh fort. Afternoon,
drive to Udaipur, where a boat ride
awaits you.

Day
13: Full day's sightseeing
of Udaipur's City Plalce, lake palaces,
memorials and other attractions. and
excursions to Eklingji and Nagda temples.
Day 14: Drive to
Chittaurgarh, and spend time till
lunch exploring its ruined attractions.
Afternoon, leave for Ajmer.
Day 15: Morning,
visit the ancient shrine of Moinuddin
Chisthi, and the the short excursion
to the Hindu pilgrimage centre of
Pushkar with its bathing fhats and
temples. Afternoon, drive to Jaipur
where tour ends. |

THE
SANCTUARY EXPERIENCE : If
sanctuaries and national parks are
your focal point of interest, then
the following itinerary will pack
in the experience of Rajasthan, including
the principal sanctuaries. Visits
to areas of interest around each sanctuary
are also built in.
Day 1:
Plan to arrive, by road, at Sariska
(accessible from Delhi and Jaipur)
before lunch. Spend the afternoon
and evening relaxing, and exploring
the erstwhile hunting lodge and surronding
areas.
Day 2: Early morning,
visit the sanctuary by jeep or other
motorised vehicles. In the morning,
the wildlife is easier to spot, feeding
or playing in groups. After breakfast,
drive to Jaipur. After lunch, a city
tour of Jaipur.
Day 3: By road to
Sawai Madhopur, arriving before lunch.
In the afternoon, drive into Ranthambhor
National Park in jeeps, where the
wildlife sightings at the lake may
be supplemented by a tiger sighting
at Sunset.

Day
4: Another drive into the
sanctuary. Following breakfast, leave
for Bharatpur )with packed picnic
lunches). Rest in the evening.
Day 5: Early morning
visit to Keoladeo Ghana National Park,
one of the best bird colonies in the
world. After breakfast, leave for
Agra, to see The Taj Mahal. From here,
tour can continue, or end.
VILLAGE TOURISM
IN THE DESERT : Jodhpur
can be the base for a number of interesting
circuits offering various options.
OPTION # 1
Day 1: Drive from
Jodhpur to Rohet, to stay at Rohet
Garh, located next to a lake. An interesting
street leads to the fort where you
will stay . A village safari will
get into close proximity of the communities
of Bishnois, Rabaris and Rajputs,
and to see blackbuck in the wild.

Day
2: Drive 100 km to Bhadrajun,
to stay at the fort palace. The waterlogged
areas around the fort become green
fields when the water recedes.
Day 3: Drive to Daspan,
visiting Jalore en route with its
temples, to stay at Durjan Niwas Castle.
The availability of water allows planned
farming here. The area is famous for
its makers of mojris, Bhil bow and
arrows, and for its silversmiths.
Day 4: Drive to Siyana,
to stay in cottages at a farm. A village
safari can also be undertaken.
Day 5: Drive to Bera
to stay at cottages (Leopard's Lair).
Visit settlements of colourful Rabari
tribals in the vicinity. The farms
here are mechanised.
Day 6: Proceed to
Mount Abu, or Udaipur.
OPTION #2
Day 1: Take a village
safari from Jodhpur, visiting villages
of the Bishnois and Rabaris. Carpet
weaving looms can be seen in the villages,
and blackbuck in the surrounding countryside.
Safari terminates at Luni where the
dry river bed offers grazing pastures
for cattle, sheep and camels.
